Main activities

Waste management – Providing consultancy for businesses carrying out waste collection and transport activities in order to obtain registration in the register of environmental managers, and to be able to operate in full compliance with current legislation. SIGE also carries out checks on the vehicles used to ascertain their technical suitability.

Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control (IPPC) - IPPC is a European strategy aimed at preventing and reducing pollution from the activities of industrial facilities. The drive towards increasing protection of the environment, through preventive control practices, combined with the adoption of measures aimed at limiting the impact on the environment, has led to a major update of the relevant regulations.

In order to comply with this approach, it is necessary to obtain a specific authorisation, known as an AIA (integrated environmental authorisation). The AIA establishes the measures required to avoid or contain emissions into water, air and soil, as well as those relating to waste generated by the plant's activity.

Authorisations for water discharges - Water discharge means any direct discharge through a conduit of liquid, semi-liquid and otherwise piped wastewater into surface waters, soil, subsoil and sewers, regardless of their polluting nature, even subject to prior purification treatment. The reference legislation is represented by Legislative Decree 152/2006 and subsequent amendments and additions, which defines, in Article, 124, that 'all discharges must be authorised in advance'.

The law’s objective is to prevent, reduce and control pollution, protecting the soil, the subsoil, and all waters (surface, sea or groundwater). In practical terms, this means that any entity that discharges water as part of its activity must comply with the requirements of the regulations in force, by applying for the relevant authorisation in advance.

It is useful to add that this authorisation identifies the owner of the activity as the person responsible for exceeding the emission limit values laid down by law, liability rests on him or her and thus it is them who are obliged to maintain the situation in compliance with the law.  This means that the authorisation will always be issued in the name of the owner of the establishment (or the person legally responsible) and any change must always be communicated to the competent PA.

SIGE assists those interested in obtaining the issuance or renewal of a permit, offering all the support necessary for submitting the application and finding the information needed to identify the extent and nature of the water discharge covered by the permit.

Atmospheric Emissions - Atmospheric emissions are one of the elements with the greatest environmental impact generated by industrial plants. preventive control and specific authorisation is therefore necessary for all plants producing emissions.

The application for authorisation must be submitted to the competent authority, including the design of the establishment and a technical report.

The plant project describes the facilities, the activities carried out and the measures taken to reduce atmospheric emissions, defining their quantity and quality. Particular attention must be paid to the identification of all emission sources, as they are a means of defining the overall impact of the plant.

The technical report describes the production cycle in which the installations are inserted and presents a declaration of conformity with the regulations in force.

SIGE's technicians offer their informative support, providing skilled and professional advice for the submission of the application and for the possible adaptation of the installation with regard to non-compliance.
