Air quality monitoring

We monitor air quality for the safety of your activities and people.

Air quality monitoring is an activity that, together with atmospheric emission sampling, makes it possible to identify and control environmental and human health risks.

SIGE offers a monitoring system capable of detecting and controlling air pollution levels through fixed locations or mobile means. Each survey point can be specially equipped to investigate specific elements, allowing both an understanding of the current situation and the tracking of observed phenomena in their temporal evolution.

Here are some of the most frequent samplings:

Fine dust monitoring - Numerous scientific studies have identified fine dust particles (PM10, PM2.5) as one of the main causes of asthma and respiratory diseases in humans. These dust particles originate from a wide range of human-caused activities such as traffic, industrial plant emissions, construction waste management, etc.

In order to ensure the well-being of the population, it is important to carry out appropriate sampling and monitor the presence of these dusts in the air and verify that the threshold levels, defined by Italian and European regulations, are not exceeded.

Pollutant monitoring (NOx, CO, SO2 , BTEX, O3) - Pollutants that can adversely affect human health are numerous. It is therefore essential to know in what concentrations they are present and to understand the sources of pollution and their possible evolution over time. Through the proper design, implementation and management of the detection network, SIGE can carry out adequate sampling over short and long periods, perform analyses and effectively communicate any issues related to the observed analytical data.

Meteorological Measurements - Air quality monitoring activities and the realisation of diffusion modelling studies involve the processing of both short-term and long-term meteorological data. In fact, meteorological data are used both for the evaluation of data from Air Quality monitoring and as input data for numerical simulation models of diffusional processes in the atmosphere.

The meteorological data required for our activities can be acquired from specialised databases (Meteorological Centres, Air Force, ...) or are obtained from our meteorological stations equipped with the following sensors: wind speed, temperature, atmospheric pressure, relative and absolute humidity, rain gauge, direct and diffuse solar radiation.

If necessary, we are able to conduct measurement campaigns of meteorological quantities with remote sensing instrumentation.

Phonometric and Vibrational Measurements - The phonometric measurements that SIGE is able to perform relate to the following areas:

  1. Environment with both short-term and long-term measurements also using remotely controlled phonometric stations oriented to the acoustic characteristics of the territory;
  2. Building and Architecture for the determination of acoustic performance descriptors of building partitions, reverberation times and the main sound indices in rooms (workplaces, conference rooms, auditoriums, ....).
  3. Engineering and Industry for the determination of the acoustic power of machines and plants and for the preparation and testing of sound mitigation measures; in addition, SIGE has specific expertise in phonometric measurements in the naval sector.
  4. Workers' Safety (Noise Risk Exposure), where they are coupled with vibrational measurements if necessary;

Phonometric monitoring measurements are validated by the automatic acquisition of critical meteorological data (wind intensity and precipitation).

SIGE's metrology activity complements and integrates the realisation of modelling studies in both outdoor and indoor living and industrial environments.

Electromagnetic Field Measurements - SIGE's metrology activities also include carrying out electric, magnetic and electromagnetic field measurements from the static field at radar frequency (18 GHz). Here too, measurements are performed in a wide variety of fields from civil to industrial and occupational safety.

At present, the equipment includes four complete measurement chains from very low frequencies (5 Hz) up to 18 GHz, a magnetometer (0 Hz) and a contact current meter.

The methods on which the metrological activity is based refer to national legislation and applicable technical standards (UNI/CEI, EN, ISO).
