Mid-1970s
The engineering and applied chemistry firm SIGE was founded from a division of a company that was already operating in the field of material testing and control. The studio, specifically, dealt with testing and control on structures and plants, in the naval, nuclear and petrochemical sectors. Also in those years, SIGE was amongst the first in Italy to approach the subject of the environment, providing its clients with emission controls and drawing up the first studies on water and air pollution.
1978
SIGE s.a.s. is established under the company name SIGE SICUREZZA INDUSTRIALE. The company continued to invest in expanding its expertise in the environmental sector, setting up a department dedicated to non-destructive testing.
1982
An in-house chemical analysis laboratory is set up.
1985
SERVIZI INDUSTRIALI GENOVA SIGE S.r.l. was established to meet the growing demand for health and safety consultancy services for workers.
1999
The range of services was extended to those in the biological sector, with a particular focus on food hygiene and safety. In that year, the Istituto Tecnologie Avanzate (ITA), founded by SIGE together with other important technical partners, was inaugurated in Tortona, and an ultra-modern laboratory for biological and toxicological analyses was set up.
2000
As one of the first companies in the industry, it obtained ISO9001 certification for its Quality Management System.
2003
From out of the non-destructive testing division, SIGE QUALITY SERVICE was created.
2004
It strengthened its collaboration with the RINA Group by joining the ITA Advanced Technology Institute.
2008
An ISO14001-certified Environmental Management System is introduced.
2010
Participation in the establishment of TICASS 'Tecnologie Innovative per il Controllo Ambientale e lo Sviluppo Sostenibile' (Innovative Technologies for Environmental Control and Sustainable Development) - a non-profit consortium company whose members include, in addition to the University of Genoa, 47 entities including large companies, SMEs and research bodies - promoting not only research activities, but also technology transfer, in the field of Energy and Environmental Protection.
2011
The in-house laboratory obtains the important accreditation, ISO17025, from Accredia as proof of the competence and reliability demonstrated in carrying out laboratory tests.
2014
Investment in the training sector, which was becoming increasingly relevant and strategic for proper management of accident prevention and beyond, by becoming a share-owner of Proxima, a training agency accredited by the Liguria Region, dealing with continuous training and knowledge development plans in corporate organisations.
2018
Review was founded together with REnew - a company operating in the field of urban renewal and real estate asset management - with the will and determination to combine technical expertise in the decommissioning of industrial sites with that of real estate asset management.
2019
To complete the implementation of the integrated management system, SIGE obtained ISO45001 certification, which attests not only to compliance with all applicable health and safety regulations but also to the proper management of all relevant company processes with a clear focus on improving the well-being and health of its workers.
2020
SIGEMARINE, SIGE's commercial branch, focussing on the maritime sector, was established.
2023
SIGE CONSULTING is established, a transfer of SIGE's business unit, a wholly owned subsidiary of SIGE that brings together the sectors:
- Occupational Health and Safety and Environmental Consulting
- Decommissioning Consultancy
- Food Hygiene and Safety Consulting.
A choice that allowed giving greater emphasis and growth opportunities for SIGE's 2 main pulsating activities: on one hand, the chemical analysis laboratory, together with the technical sector, and on the other hand, the consulting sector.
