Acoustics

Acoustic solutions for your health and well-being in the working environment

Our acoustics consultancy deals with analysing, assessing, monitoring and providing solutions to correct noise pollution, i.e. all those noises that can annoy, disturb, harm or even endanger human health.

SIGE supports companies, engineers, architects, builders and public authorities by offering expertise and professionalism in handling acoustic problems both indoors and outdoors. Thanks to our experience, we are able to offer a wide range of solutions to suit every context: industrial, commercial, residential and spatial planning.

Main activities

Noise measurement - This is historically SIGE's core activity in the acoustic field: measuring noise. Phonometric measurements make it possible to identify, determine and characterise acoustic phenomena in the human environment. Measurements make it possible to assess a wide range of metrics (intensity, diffusion, vibrations, temporal variations, etc.) that make it possible to reconstruct the exact acoustic situation of the site and to understand whether it complies with the noise levels permissible by current legislation.

Noise and Worker Safety - A large part of SIGE's activities in the acoustic field concerns the working environment and in particular the industrial environment. Legislative Decree No. 81/2008 and subsequent amendments and additions requires that workers undergo periodic inspections during their work activities to prevent overexposure to noise and provide corrective actions for a progressive reduction of noise exposure during working hours. In this sense, the preparation of the Company Noise Emission Reduction Programme (UNI 11347:2015), the drafting of which is required by Legislative Decree No. 81/2008, plays an important role.

Noise Impact Assessment and Drafting of Noise Abatement Plans for Businesses - The predictive noise impact assessment is an analysis procedure that makes it possible to assess the effects caused by the work or the production site and to predict, by means of special models, the level of noise emissions and their compliance with the regulations in force. The same procedure is applicable both in the predictive phase but also to existing situations and can lead to the development of an Acoustic Remediation Plan. This plan brings together all the actions necessary to mitigate noise emissions in order to comply with legal limits (acoustic classification of the territory) and thus protect the exposed population. In this context, a series of technical solutions are identified to reduce or control emissions and bring the environmental area concerned into compliance with legal limits.

Acoustic classification of the territory - Law No. 447/1995 and subsequent amendments and additions provides that Italian municipalities must divide their territory into homogeneous acoustic zones with precise and specific acoustic limits, in order to govern the acoustic environment. By means of appropriate acoustic zoning, it is possible to manage and control noise sources, prepare corrective actions and guarantee an improvement in the population's quality of life. SIGE, also on the basis of its own experience, offers support to Municipal Administrations in the drafting of the Municipal Acoustic Classification Plan (PCCA) and in the adoption and implementation of corrective actions (Municipal Acoustic Rehabilitation Plan) for the mitigation of environmental noise, in harmony with regional guidelines.

What we offer

We can help you with:
  • Municipal acoustic classification: this is the technical-political land management tool - a sort of Master Plan - that municipalities must equip themselves with in order to plan territorial activities so as to reduce noise pollution in the area.

  • Municipal noise remediation plans: this is the planning tool for remediation measures on the territory that municipalities have in order to reduce environmental noise pollution.

  • Noise mapping: a cognitive tool for environmental noise.

  • Predictive noise impact assessment: predictive studies to assess and correct the noise impact of production activities (or transport infrastructure) on the environment. They are generally carried out using numerical simulation programmes. Among the programmes mainly used by SIGE are: SoundPlan 7, RayNoise 3, INM 6.0.

  • Acoustic remediation: design of solutions (silencers, barriers, ...) aimed at reducing the acoustic impact on the environment outside the company.

  • Assessment of workers' exposure to noise: checking of workers' exposure to noise and improvement of the working environment, possibly including acoustic treatment of working environments. Corporate Noise Emission Reduction Programme (P.A.R.E.).

  • Building acoustics: support for architectural design to contribute to more acoustically comfortable living environments and on-site testing of buildings for certification of their acoustic performance.

  • Sound power determination: determination of the sound power of a machine/equipment/plant for certification purposes.

  • Development Research Activities: POR, Life (TASMAC), SASIPORT project on port noise in cooperation with CETENA.

  • Acoustic consultancy: aimed at companies specialising in the manufacture of sound insulation materials for the railway and shipbuilding sectors.

Why choose us? The added value of SIGE

Thanks to SIGE's wide range of specialisations in the field of acoustics, we are able to support companies in ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations, as well as in creating more comfortable working environments in terms of acoustic comfort.
