Fire Prevention

We determine the fire-fighting measures that safeguard lives, protect the company and the environment.

Mandatory under law, non-compliance with which may expose companies to administrative and, in the event of an accident, criminal liability.

It is therefore necessary to conduct an analysis that, by identifying the level of risk, allows one to assess how to distribute fire-fighting equipment within the work environment in order to minimise or even eliminate the fire risk.

SIGE supports its customers:

  • identifying the risks and all the elements of danger of the different business situations,

  • assessing, designing and implementing suitable fire-fighting measures and procedures, to enable companies to comply with current regulations.

SIGE's professional advice aims to protect people's lives, company assets and the environment.

Below are some of the most relevant activities carried out in the field of fire prevention.

Fire Compliance declaration - This is a document issued by the Fire Department certifying the compliance of a new building or structure in which certain activities will take place. It is typically required for new structures and for pre-existing structures that have undergone significant modifications.

The request for a fire safety compliance opinion requires the submission of specific documentation consisting of technical and design reports to certify compliance with the safety standards required by current legislation. SIGE accompanies the customer in the process of drawing up the documentation and verifying the safety conditions. Once the documentation has been delivered, the Fire Brigade Command will have 60 days to express the required declaration on compliance.

Periodic Renewal of Fire Compliance - This is a certificate designed to communicate that no safety-relevant changes have occurred since the previous fire compliance declaration. Depending on the category of the company, renewal may be required every 5 or 10 years. SIGE offers timely advice in compiling the necessary documentation and assessing any critical issues that could affect compliance.

Design of fire-fighting systems - The designer of fire-fighting systems must be a qualified technician who meets certain requirements, and is responsible for identifying fire risks, defining the most appropriate tools and systems to prevent and manage possible emergencies, and acting in full compliance with the regulations in force, in order to guarantee the safety of people and the protection of company assets.

SIGE supports the customer in defining the project, drawing up all the necessary documentation and correctly classifying the company category and fire risk associated with the production activity.

Fire Risk Assessment - This is a document that allows the employer to take all necessary measures to safeguard the safety of workers. In particular, risk prevention, worker training, and technical and organisational safety measures to deal with risks.

There are many operational steps required for a proper fire risk assessment as follows:

  • Acquisition of general information about the premises being assessed
  • Description of production activities and equipment in the work area
  • Identification of existing potential fire hazards (combustible materials and ignition sources)
  • Elimination or mitigation of fire risk
  • Residual fire risk assessment
  • Checking the adequacy of existing security measures and, if necessary, supplementing them with appropriate corrective measures
