Sampling of emissions and environmental matrices

We sample emissions for the safety of your activities and people.

Companies with atmospheric emission permits are required to meet specific requirements that may vary depending on the type of permit (ordinary or derogation) and the type of activity authorised.

In particular, the authorisations may provide for periodic sampling of atmospheric emissions, which the company is obliged to carry out within the prescribed time limits and with the sampling and analysis methods indicated in the measure. The objective is to control the impact of these emissions on the surrounding environment and prevent the onset of conditions that are potentially harmful to humans and environmental matrices (i.e. the elements that characterise the ecosystem such as air, water and soil).

SIGE offers operational support to carry out sampling, analysis and monitoring operations, using highly qualified technicians, by adopting the correct procedures according to the production plant situation and authorisations.

Main activities

Atmospheric emission sampling

In compliance with the relevant technical standards and authorisation provisions, sampling plans are prepared (describing the emissions to be sampled with the relevant parameters to be analysed, the instrumentation used and the PPE required to carry out the activity.

Subsequently, sampling (at the company’s own site) and analyses (in SIGE laboratories) are carried out and appropriate analytical reports and, if necessary, technical reports are issued, which aim to summarise the situation analysed, any criticalities found and situations of non-compliance with the regulations in force.

If the conditions are not suitable for sampling, corrective actions on the plant are evaluated together with the customer, in accordance with the regulations, to allow for the correct execution of the measurements and to guarantee the safety of the personnel involved in the activities.

Sampling and control of environmental matrices

The service includes the sampling of various environmental matrices such as water (groundwater, wastewater, drinking water for human consumption, civil or industrial waste water or water for technological use, bathing water or swimming pool water), soil, waste, interstitial gases in order to determine the possible presence of pollutants (chemical or microbiological).

The way in which sampling operations are carried out meets the criteria set out in the reference legislation, i.e. Legislative Decree 152/06, UNI laws and the guidelines defined by control bodies (ARPA, AST, etc.).

The investigations are carefully documented and recorded in special reports in order to not only assess the current situation, but also the evolution of the analytical data over time. All sampling, as well as the related analyses, are carried out with instrumentation that is adequate for the purpose and handled by experienced personnel to ensure maximum reliability of results.

This type of investigation can support a wide range of production facilities that generate pollutants through their normal work cycle. Examples include: chemical or pharmaceutical industries, metalworking, painting and plastics industries. It is worth mentioning that, depending on the activity carried out, these companies are required to carry out regular checks by taking regular samples. SIGE takes all the necessary actions to avoid situations of non-compliance with the regulations and avoid the related sanctions.
